Where do you take height measurements from?

when taking height measurements for potential loft conversion do you take it from the top of joist or from ceiling belows plasterboard? different web sites say differentthings, thanks

I always measure from the top of the ceiling joists to the underside of the ridge beam. You're looking for at least 2.3m as new stronger floor joists will be added alongside your ceiling joists plus insulation between and across the rafters will reduce this down.
