No heating Will pipes burst ?

Anonymous user 23 February 2024 - 3.50 PM

I’ve not had any central heating since Friday night(now Sunday morning) the outside temperature has been around -2 to 2 degree c. My hot water is still working and have an engineer coming out today to see what is happening but I’m freaking out that my pipes will now be frozen and the introduction of hot water when heating is sorted will cause pipes to burst.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

when heating goes back on it may show where pipes have burst, putting the heating on will not burst pipes, water expands as it freezes that is when pipes burst, if they have frozen any bursts will show as it un freezes ,untill then you just have to hope the have not frozen.

Hi, if your dhw is still working then your heating side should be ok, if you cold mains haven’t frozen over night then I’m sure the heating will be fine

If the outside temp is -2, the temperature inside the property is unlikely to have dropped sufficiently since Friday to freeze the pipes.
