Spot light or Bulk head light in bathroom?

Anonymous user 23 February 2024 - 3.50 PM

Found out that water condensation has entered the spot lights (IP65) causing the fuse board to trip. I was by one electrician to replace the spot lights for bulk head or mini bulk head led lights due to the spot lights in bathroom don't handle moisture well. Another electrician advise to keep the spot lights but to have gel base sealant to avoid moisture entering in the future.

Good quality IP65 light fittings should easily cope with condensation in a bathroom. You need to look at why, if not down to poor quality equipment or incorrect installation, is causing the extreme conditions resulting in failure of the fittings.

For that amount of moisture ingress I would look at how you deal with it, not what light fitting to use! Improve the extraction in there. If you don't have a fan, get one put in, or improve the one you have. Its very unusual for an IP65 rated fitting to fail like that so the condensation must be very serious.

Try and convert internal lampholder in spot lights to a GU10 lamp holder. These suitable for bathrooms and come in LED lamps. Very easy also on electric and long life span on lamps, also available in warm or cool white.
