Deposit normally covers materials for the works then the labour is paid on completion.
This is normally how I work as well as alot of trades I work with. This way if the customer doesn't pay for whatever reason at least the contractor isn't in debt with suppliers. Hope this helps

Hi at incline we normally ask for deposit for price of the materials that is it some people are different but Varies

A deposit for materials is just a common thing if materials are paid for it keeps the builder in good stead with his supplier which he needs to continue to work but then also if any extra is needed it can be discussed after and customer and builder know where there at without the well you said it was this much some times you need more if something you couldn't see or predict happens everybody needs to earn a living and this is simple protection protocol in my experience 🙂
