Damp Proofing
Why does dpc keep failing ?
Anonymous user 9 March 2024 - 3.31 PM
Forgot to mention the 1st dpc lasted only 15 years, the 2nd 4/5 years, its a concrete/ashfelt? Flooring throughout downstairs,
Tide marks get darker after heavy rain, carpet gripper nails rusty, but most of all, when builders took plaster off chimney breast wall, the corners on both sides where there is that vertical metal strip were rusty, which builders replaced. Surely the left side of chimney breast which is in middle of room shouldnt be rusty? Any ideas please, im desperate to get it sorted.
Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?
I lecture on why siloxane silicone injection is a complete con .
I’ve done 11000 jobs and only seen true rising dampness about 20 times .
The chimney has a condition called ammonia sulphate contamination and injection will not help that .
First things you need to open holes on chimney area and to fix air vents to breathe through chimney.
Second things if is ground floor need to install dps creamy injection.
Three if is very bad damp Ned to fix isotherm membrane to stop any damp to come through.
Injection damp never last it sounds like you have rising damp , you need to get a damp proof membrane to stop it regards SgRevamps

Don’t inject, it’s a gimmick. Firstly tge chimney needs investigating for failed flashings, re-pointing, re-flaunching then if these are good you need ventilation in tge room, air brick to the outside for positive air flow. A lot of this could be condensation but I’d start with the roof/chimney
