Insulation

PIR board on plaster

Anonymous user 28 February 2024 - 4.05 PM

Hi, I have a downstairs toilet with external wall which is 2 skin brick without cavity. It's a pretty nippy toilet room. I have a load of left over 62mm celotex PIR board which I was going to add to the external wall via batons. There is still plaster on this wall, a bit of it is hollow. I didn't anticipate removing this, but wondering if I should now. Does it need to be removed? Celotex said it's ok to put board over existing plaster but I don't want it crumbling away behind the board over time. The only disadvantage of removing it is that I'm losing an inch of insulation from the plaster.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hi there, I would recommend painting the wall in a blackjack paint and attaching timber to the wall and insulate in between the studs then board over the studs

I would suggest a freestanding stud wall with no penetrations and celotex insulation between studs and Pir plasterboard over. Alternatively you could thistlebond the walls and dot and dab insulated board using adhesive. Just need to make sure the boards are paper backed not foil backed PIR. Thanks
