Windows & Door fitting
Leaking Velux rooflight
Anonymous user 16 March 2024 - 2.48 PM
My velux window has started to leak from the bottom left corner. Its fitted on a velux upstand on a flat roof. The sides of the upstand have been water proofed therefore not the source of the leak. It seems water must be getting into the velux metal frame somehow. Any ideas how and what should be done?

Make sure the rubber seals on the top are installed properly and the frame that sits on top of the rubbers is fully tightened up.

Please state the material the roof is sealed with fibre glass, or rubber etc. Also can people walk on it or has people been on it. As if it's rubber someone may stood on the roof with maybe a stone in there shoe so this possibly could coursed a puncture and in that case the water could be entering in many places.
How long ago were they put in? Velux provide an excellent product but a very poor spongy seal ( which perishes over time). Some installers use another good seal and job is good for a long time. If yours are installed with the velux grey foam seal, that might be where the fault lies. Otherwise the last chaps answer is also a good call.
