Damp on old blocked chimney wall

Anonymous user 1 March 2024 - 2.59 PM

Hi, I'm looking for advice on what to do here. I live in a four in a block upper flat, I appear to have what seem to be damp patches on an old chimney breast. The chimney was removed and blocked many years ago way before we moved in. There are no vents anywhere inside or outside. Would installing such vent preferably outside fix the issue with dampness ? Apologies selected wrong category 🙈 Thank you

Vents will always help and should be fitted but if the chimney is closed at top (properly) then i would be checking the lead work around it where it exits the roof and looking at the condition of the mortor and bricks on it too if the work was done a while ago and no one has maintained it since it could be any of those things. Vents go on the inside usually for a number of reasons so recommend sticking with it also 👍 if you would like help please let me know if your not a million miles away id be happy to have a look. Hope this helps

It would only help improve the situation. It would be the first step I would recommend to resolve the issue. If there wasn't adequate drying allowed with this process, I would then move onto a second option. This would be my first recommendation.
