Orange thread coming through new plaster

Anonymous user 1 March 2024 - 2.59 PM

Hello, I have just had bathroom replastered and noticed a small patch of orange thread popping through plaster. Wondered what best way to get rid of it is to ensure a smooth finish for painting? Or should I get plasterer back to sort? I’ve tried cutting thread but still little bits sticking out and leaving uneven surface. Thanks for any help!

Hi, Sound's like the scrim tape(joint tape) is piercing through the surface, either there was a bump in the board or a tight finish layer. easy fix would be to just apply easy fill over the area or if its to bad or the area to big I would say to ask the plaster you used to fix.

This happens when the plasterer only does one coat instead of two. I’d inspect the rest of the plastering. If it’s just that one small area, cut the protruding orange scrim tape then use a filler to patch the area. If there is more issues, call the plasterer back to sort.

Hi This shouldn’t have happened with 2 coats of plaster and shows that the plasterer hasn’t paid too much attention to the finish. Ideally it should be fixed but unlikely they’ll come back, so a small amount of filler will be the most economical fix taking time/effort into consideration in getting the plasterer to return. Hope this helps!

Sounds like scrim joint tape coming through. Cut back on angle with Stanley knife, touch up with filla and lightly sand.
