Problems with Hive on Y Plan system

Anonymous user 9 March 2024 - 3.30 PM

Hi. I have installed Hive on an existing Y Plan system but neither HW or CH are now working correctly. When turning either on, I hear the boiler "click" and the pump near the valve starts up but no hot water is produced. The Pump also shows a reading of 7w and sits at that level, previously, this was showing a consistent 45w with the HW on. I cannot be 100% that the heating was working correctly prior to installing Hive as I only recently moved into the house. I have double checked the wiring and all appears correct (I disconnected 3 wires from the room thermostat and joined the white cable that is from the 3 port valve to the "HW on" from the Hive control panel). Any suggestions of what has happened or what I have done wrong would be much appreciated! Thanks

Dear customer, After installing 100s of hives for British Gas there are several things that could be wrong but sounds like you have missed a wire out to the boiler, this would depend on the type of boiler you have i.e. pump over run and switch live, retrace your wiring with a appropriate voltage tester but this should only be done by a competent fully trained electrician.

The fact that is taking only 7w instead of 45w, make me think is running without load, and that that could be due to a closed valve ( unintuitively that happen to centrifugal pump, to put in simple terms in that case the pump only has to spin around the water in the chamber and doesn't need extra energy to actually pump water). One other possibility is that the impeller come detached and the motor spin freely.
