Landscape Gardening Question

Patio base composition

I'm having a patio built with sandstone slabs. Two different builders propose a 6 inch concrete slab base with the patio slabs laid into wet concrete on the upper surface.
Will the concrete slab remain stable with time ? Should it have MOT type 1 underneaath it ?

6 inch of concrete is ample if over stable earth.
personally i put 150mm hardcore, 100mm concrete then bed the flags into 50mm screed over the top. i've parked my builders van on it for 6 yrs and nothings moved.

are you sure that they will not be using any mot, it may be that they intend using reinforcing mesh in the concrete which should be fine, each builder has there own way of doing jobs, myself i would use mot sharp sand and slabs laid onto a mortar bed

Definately should have 4 inch COMPACTED type 1 aggregate then 2 inch stonedust. The only cement used should be for pointing of the slabs. All this concrete not good and may crack over time. Andy.
