Moving electric cooker

Anonymous user 16 March 2024 - 2.47 PM

I need to have the wallpaper behind my electric freestanding cooker removed before i can get a a new cooker installed. I am thinking of having the bottom half of the wall behind the cooker painted and adding a splashback to the wall above the cooker to comply with the 'hot zone' before cooker installation. Do decorators move cookers to get to the back of the cooker to decorate that area?

Generally speaking, you should expect the painters to paint and not to move furniture or appliances. If they agree to move things upfront, that’s great, otherwise assume they’ll paint around anything you’ve left in their way.

It isn’t a decorators job to remove (temporarily or permanently) electrical appliances. If the current oven is wired into the wall a trained electrician should be used to disconnect the oven. If it’s a plug then it would be up to the customer to request and pay for the additional workload, unless it’s an oven on sliders with a simple plug. Removing the wallpaper from behind an oven is essential. You could paint behind, but it will most probably get quite grubby once the oven is in use. The cleanest look would be to tile behind and above the oven and over the counter wall. You could also cement painted glass behind and over the counter. The more of one thing, ie tiles, you use the more expensive it will look. If you want to go cheap then a ‘safety paint’ that can withstand high temperatures without giving off toxic fumes can be used and screw over a glass or backsplash panel behind.

If the oven has been installed properly there should be enough scope to slide the oven out in order to clean or paint behind it.
