Tiling
Tiler not tiling under bath tub
Anonymous user 9 March 2024 - 3.29 PM
I have hired a tiler and he is charging me £2300 for 22sqm of tiling. That is half the bathroom walls and the whole floor.
We agreed he would tile the whole bathroom and I believe the 22sqm is for the whole bathroom, but he is refusing to tile the other half of the bathroom (which is already untiled)
He is also refusing to tile under the bath tub, because he said he would have to remove it, but he has already removed sink and basin with no problems!
I am not sure if he's used cement backing board where the shower is going to be, but he said it is waterproofed and I have no need to worry.
I guess my question is - is he right to refuse to not take out the bath tub and tile under it?
Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?
Regarding the covered area i will suggest that you meassure by yourself whats been done and whats left to do and calculate were you ve been quoted for the right amount of sqm, allow 10 to 15% more for cuts.
About not removing the bath tube, again first this must have been agreed prior to start the job, guessing this havent been agreed ill say that removing the sink and basin its a pretty straight foward job, when it comes to the bath tube if its not included in the quote and not agreed prior the job its a more time consuming job that will require being confortable with plumbing.
If the bath is free standing ie no bath pannel so when the room is complete you will see under and around the bath then yes you would tile under it .
If it will be enclosed ie bath pannel then it would be pointless tiling it as you will not see it .
The same as you wouldn't tile the part of the wall that the bath covers
Would just be stupid unless it's a free standing bath
It’s your property and your job if you want it done then you get it done, your the customer and what customer wants the customer should get. Obviously more work will result in more money.
As detailed as the answer was giving specifics on what was agreed before work commenced. If I were getting paid £105m² for bathroom work I'd be doing exactly what the client asked for and some.
