Pax wardrobe instillation

Anonymous user 9 March 2024 - 3.29 PM

I have a large bulkhead in the master bedroom that measures 920mm W x 930mm H x 804mm D. It sits in an alcove that is 2080mm width with a sloping roof approx 410mm from the outside wall. I wonder if there is anyway I could use the IKEA pax wardrobe systems to utilise this space. My thought would be to buy 2000mm W x 2360 H x 580mm deep and a 2000mm x 2360mm x 350mm and stand one Infront of the other to make a deep closet that would hide the bulkhead? Then put shelves in the back and hanging rails in front of them. This would mean the front wardrobe not having a back support.. is there any way I could strengthen the structure without using a back board? The wardrobes could be attached to the wall on the left hand side but as they would only run as far as the length of straight ceiling they couldn't be attached to the outside wall ( where the ceiling slopes). I have had a quote for a bespoke make wardrobe and my budget just doesn't run that high. Would a joiner be able to do anything with the pax wardrobe idea?

Hi. Your description of this is very detailed but it would always be better for a trade to come out and look at the job before committing to anything. There are numerous ways to add fillers or trim down the pax units if you have the right additional materials but would be a lot easier to answer the question after seeing the job. Hope this helps.

Hi. Yes I agree with the other answer it would be easier to look at the job and then come up with an idea that would be the best for you. The only problem with cutting IKEA stuff is make sure you don't chip the veneer.
