Bathroom Fitting

Boiler cupboard no dry lining

Anonymous user 28 February 2024 - 4.04 PM

We recently renovated and the boiler is in the bathroom. The boiler cupboard has started to smell musty and we thought it was maybe condensation. However I’ve just noticed that a patch above the boiler isn’t dry lined it’s just bare brick. Could this be the cause? Surely they should have fry lined the whole wall?

Hi Wow, The boiler cupboard could be Musty for one or several reasons, yes the drywall that’s missing will help and should definitely had been done, but there may also be other issues such as humidity from the bathroom may be getting trap in the cupboard space, there may not be enough air change in the cupboard, you may have a small leak from a pipe in the cupboard, it might be damp being absorbed through the outer brick. Have a damp Survey done and this will give you your prognosis. Best of luck. Chris Ellis

Hi it could be any pipe leak inside or damp from outside wall or can be the condensation from the bathroom stream. I recommend extractor fan (if there is some space or if the boiler wall is outer wall) or some kind of ventilation in the cupboard. also leave some space from boiler and wall like make small gap between the boiler and the wall. for long run the boiler body can get damage due to continues moisture. As Chris Ellis said need a damp survey in the previous comment. Thanks.

One thing to check which I found before is the gas analyser testing point could be left open which for sure will make it wet above or around the boiler ,
