Kitchen Fitting
Brand new kitchen damage!
Anonymous user 16 March 2024 - 2.47 PM
So my new kitchen arrived, fitter come to start fitting it and discovered the other workmen had moved the tower appliance unit and ripped the legs off the bottom. The units were prebuilt and delivered ready made.
He said taking it apart could weaken the unit and he wouldn't like to do so as it would void my warranty with the company I purchased it from. Also he couldn't guarantee it would hold the weight of the appliances.
The other worker who caused the damage, said he can fix it. Is this a good enough solution?
Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?
It's very frustrating when other trades move things without care & attention. Usually the legs are held in with 4 screws and a knock in dowel in the centre. If the worker who damaged it is able to fit new legs in the same location this shouldn't be a problem. Just make sure that the legs are set back from the front edge by the correct amount and that the leg supports both the base & the upright.
I’ve seen similar incidents where the legs have broken off kitchen units when moving them and have seen them repaired fine but I guess where it’s brand new the kitchen fitter has to offer a warranty with his work, perhaps this is why he is not happy to now fit it and especially that it’s to hold appliances. Hope you find a solution
It should be an easy fix. I can’t believe the fitter won’t do it. Anyway any competent person can do it. It is easy to break the feet when moving a tower unit. There so heavy and the feet are just plastic, but it’s simple to reposition them
