Head restraint for stud walls?

Anonymous user 16 March 2024 - 2.47 PM

Hi, occasionally I run into projects whereby for one reason or the other I can't have full stud height walls, ie walls that finish at the underside of the roof soffit or solid ceiling. I would like to know if there are other ways of restraining the head of a stud wall if I haven't got a solid ceiling/roof soffit to fix it to? Thanks

Usually I would double up on the end timbers and if possible elongate the upright timbers through the floor.

studs normally are build by using 3x2 CLS . When it comes to your kind of stud walls, best to use will be 4x2 treated as they are much heavier and solid. Add some noggins really tight and you should be just fine

If you are able to access the joists in the ceiling above, perhaps you could install extra noggins between those joists so that they line up with your stud wall below to fix to? Joe
