Steps for painting the facade of an old house?

Anonymous user 9 March 2024 - 3.29 PM

Hello, Could someone take me through the correct steps of re-painting a house facade? We've got an 1890 Victorian house, and want to give the front a repaint. Scaffold is up from doing the roof, but I'm unsure what we need to do first before applying the final coat etc? There's currently old peeling paint on the facade (with probably multiple paint layers), with chips revealing the render below. In order to get it looking nice would I; Scrape back any peeling paint Powerwash the facade to clean any buildup Fungicide wash to make sure I kill any growth Re-prime the facade, going over the current paint & to build up a layer to counter for the peeled areas? Two or Three coats of the final colour? Is there anything else I need to do? People don't strip the the old paint fully do they (somehow)? Any advice on this would be fantastic. Thanks!
