Security of uPVC window locks

Anonymous user 3 March 2024 - 3.42 PM

Hi, We've recently moved into a new place which has some windows that open onto a public side path. The windows are modern uPVC with locks in the handle so we don't open them and keep them locked at all times. I want to make sure they are fully secure though, is there any value to _also_ installing additional window locks like these or is it pointless as there's already a lock in the handle? https://www.diy.com/departments/yale-white-upvc-window-lock/192141_BQ.prd Alternatively, would it be the most secure to have the window panes that are openable, to be replaced with just plain window panes so that the windows aren't openable at all? Thanks for your help.

Hi, Most modern U-PVC windows have shootbolt locking with additional keeps and anti bar plates. I think you would be perfectly fine without any additional locks. Kind regards, R&B Home Improvements Ltd.

as R&B say most modern windows are secure enough but if you have the type of handle that has a small protrusion that sticks over the frame to lock it (hard to explain but the simplest of handles) i would suggest to beef up the security of those. all the best Wintec UPVC team
