Bathroom Fitting

Formal status of British Standards

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.27 PM

Hi - I have recently posted a question on this forum (https://www.mybuilder.com/questions/v/75622/tiling-on-plyboard-wall) which I received some helpful replies on. Unfortunately the forum won't now allow me to add a follow-up question. With regard to the question above my follow up question is whether there is anything that would allow me to require the builder who undertook the tiling to return and bring the work up to British Standards? Or can I only do so if/when the tiling fails? Or could i claim off the builders public liability insurance. Just to add - this builder has done lots of work for us in the past, and we have never had any problems. The only reason i instructed a new tiler was due to the original builder been so busy. The whole situation isn't ideal, i don't want to fall out with the builder or him be in a situation where he is losing earnings, but i also don't want a bathroom that we have paid for not to be fit for purpose and end up out of action in a few more years, with the potential to cause damage to neighbouring rooms. Thank you in advance

how is his work not up to british standards ?, what makes you think it will fail ?, how is the tiling unfit for purpose ?, how long do you expect him to guarantee his work ?.

Post a picture of the tiling, then us tradesmen can see the problem. You're household insurance is your first point of contact, and If they think you have a case, they will deal with it on your behalf. Household insurance always takes presidents.
