Gluing beading to laminate floor: is this OK?

Anonymous user 1 March 2024 - 2.57 PM

I have had laminate flooring installed without removing skirting boards. I think it looks fine. However, I have discovered that the fitter has glued the beading to the laminate, which I thought was wrong. He says he's been doing it like that for years and the laminate can still move. Should I accept that or get it redone? I'm afraid that it will invalidate my 20-year warranty (It's Quickstep Aquanto from B&Q.)

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

All beading should have been pinned to the skirting with either short length 18/23 gauge nails. The beading is there to hide the expansion gap, as well as being decorative, and easily removed to do repairs. Flooring should be allowed to expand/contract according to the temperature.

quadrant / scotia beading should generally be pinned to the skirting which hide’s the expansion gap on floors , i wouldn’t think that glueing them to the floor is good practice as this could hinder the expansion/ movement in the boards

The scotia should always be nailed down to the skirting, allowing your laminate flooring to expand and contract. I hope this will help
