When to lay boarder on drive way

Anonymous user 23 February 2024 - 3.45 PM

Hi I’m planning on doing my driveway by removing 200mm top soil , laying 150mm mot1 and then 50mm of decorative gravel. At which point do I install a boarder above the mot1 or below. Also any ideas what to use for a nice boarder and what sand/cement mixture Thanks

Hey Jack, I always lay my edging bricks or concrete edging first. That way you can take your level of MOT and shingle up to them. As you'll be whacking up to your edging sets; they need to have a deep profile, ideally bedded on ballast-cement and then haunched for stability with sharp-cement. 5:1 is fine but again, ideally a strong 4:1 mix. Best tip: whack the first layer of shingle into the MOT to stop it migrating before blinding over the rest. Hope this helps. All the best Dan

When I look at a job the first thing I want to do is the edgings first.look to see how the land lays for slopes and drainage.once that’s done lay 150 mm off edging stone on 150mm off sharp sand then back the sides up with a hornchin of about 35 to 45 degrees with sharp sand and cement 4 and 1 mix .then lay my weed membrain down to stop all weeds in the future .then mot wackier it down the my top stone .then give the top stone a light wacker then rake to finish .

Always edging first then fill the centre area with mot Again always haunch up the edging stones to create extra strength to them
