Tiling

Tiling a hallway floor

Anonymous user 9 March 2024 - 3.27 PM

Hi is it possible to tile hallway floors on upper floor levels in a townhouse as I was told by a builder to only do the ground floor due to movement in the home that might make them crack? Thanks

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

If the floor is thick enough to support the weight of tiles etc. Then use a cement based backer board to minimise movement in the floor above.

Hi… In some conditions your builder is right but the solution for it , first apply hardboard on the top of it apply all in one ( it is similar to PVA) then apply decoupling Matt with tile adhesive and then tile with tile adhesive All the other information and Material you can get from Toptiles…

Hi, as long as your floor can hold the weight it will be fine. You will need to lay cement board down and then a decouple matt such as "ditra matting" and then use the correct adhesive reccomend and it will be absolutely fine

If the floor is thick enough to support the weight of tiles , you can use a weed board to minimise movement in the floor above.
