expansion vessel gauge
Anonymous user 9 March 2024 - 3.27 PM
Hi
Any help. I have a expansion vessel for my heating with a pressure gauge.Problem is when the heating is on the pressure gauge is normal and on 2 bar. When the heating is off the pressure gauge goes down to 0 bar.Does the same every day and i have not topped it up.Is it a faulty gauge.
Many Thanks
Ian
Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?
Not a gauge fault. The expansion in the system holds enough weight in water to fire the boiler - once boilers running expansion takes place - which is fine. BUT will lead to complete FAIL of pressure relief valve component soon AND expansion vessel IF pre charged vessel AIR pressure isn't retained.
So the answer is NO
Replace vessel
OR
Relief pressure
Check / adjust current Pre-charge pressure in vessel.
Hope this helps
Thanks pd
I would consider have you got designer rads on the system and perhaps too many of them, you see they are high water content so more expansion. I am surprised however that your boiler is firing with 0 bar pressure?
I’d say that the expansion vessel is not big enough for the whole system you have. Potentially an additional vessel might be needed.
Most boilers only come with a small sized vessel and if it’s a bigger system. An additional vessel is required
I would say no you don’t have a fault gauge best thing I can think of it that it could need a service doing cause typically expansion vessels are done every 12 months
