Gas Work Question

Installing a high level grill gas cooker - clearances

My parents need to replace a high level grille cooker as it cannot be repaired due to the age. We want to fit a similar high level grille cooker, but were told that one could not be installed due to new regulations about space. What are the regulations on this? I can find reference to minimum 20mm clearance at the sides, which it meets and minimum 610mm clearance above, which it meets, but there are two wall cabinets either side of the existing grille, still 20mm away from the sides of the grille. Is this a problem or not? Could somebody clarify the regulations or the requirements.
