Radiators not working following new boiler instillation

Anonymous user 23 February 2024 - 3.44 PM

*EDIT* the plumber had flushed the system and balanced the radiators prior to me asking this (or so he said..) is there anything else it could be or should I get someone else in to try balancing them again? Hi, I recently had a baxi 830 combi boiler installed. Prior to this, all radiators worked. Since instillation, the kitchen radiator will not come on at all. The engineer has flushed the system several times. He can get the radiator hot when all others are turned off, but as soon as others are turned back on it goes cold again. He now reckons it must not have been working before (it definitely was) and there’s a pipe work issue. I feel he is fobbing me off so he doesn’t have to resolve the issue himself, and is trying to shift the blame. My house is a 4 bed with 2 bathrooms, a total of 12 rads (not sure if the boiler is suitable for this?). I was wondering if anyone could shed some light as to why this is occuring, as the pipe work is plastered into the wall so really don’t fancy him ripping the wall to bits if it’s something he should have done differently? I’m wondering if he’s fitted an insufficient boiler. Thank you in advance for your help.

It sounds like the contractor has to balance the system, meaning he has to adjust the flow to the radiators so they all come on at roughly the same time, seems like the kitchen rad needs to be turn on full whilst the others are partially open. So I'd start with the kitchen rad fully open then move round the house gradually opening up the others. However a new boiler wouldn't cause the radiator to stop working it's a separate issue which is extra work for your contractor keeping in mind they have only been paid to fit a new boiler to a old system as opposed to fitting new with new If the rads worked before they should in theory work again, if the pipework wasn't sized correctly in the initial installation that can make balancing very difficult or if the radiator valves have become faulty, the difficulty of working on central heating is that anything can happen particularly when mixing new with old it's why you'll find contractors tend to want to fit all new as they don't want to be blamed for things that go wrong with the old parts of the system

it looks like dirt in the system from the installation....The radiator is clogged up with dirt so wont flow it might even be getting hot at the pipe and not passing throughthe radiator. It is necessary to disconnect the radiator from the system and back flush it and open the valves and flush out the obstruction. If he cant do it we can and would have it running in less than the time he spent giving excuses

Although I agree with the answer the boiler under powered should be 40kwfor 2bathroom house not a 30kw
