Plumbing
Low pressure after new cold tank installed
Anonymous user 9 March 2024 - 3.26 PM
In our industrial building we recently had our cold water tank drained down for some work to be carried out , the water is gravity fed and feeds quite a lot of places and units. E.g hot drink vending machines and dish washers as well as water heaters , we have the problem of one minute the pressure is fine and the next there is no pressure in the system. Any help or information would help greatly.

Hi is the tank lower than the old one and also maybe the cold supply from your tank is now 15mm and the old tank had 22mm. I come across this before the problem on this occasion was the plumber left a plastic speed fit stop cap in the tank and it made it's way to the cold feed opening and this was slowing the water flow.

Hi, you have to make sure the tank is the correct size for the property also as it is gravity fed is the tank high enough to give you enough head pressure. For every meter the the tank is off the floor you’ll gain (0.1 bar every meter)
I’d also look at increasing the pipe size to to distribute to the appliances. If more than one appliance is because used at once this will most certainly affect the pressure.
When the tank is refilled you must ensure no dirt or anything has gone through into the pipe.
Hi
I think a possible answer could be the pipe work from the tank to the utilities.
You are going to get very little pressure from a cold water tank. The water going down has very little force and will be subject to air bubbles coming upward. If the pipe work has any rises in it that will complicate matters further. Check the pipes.

It could be that something has been disturbed when cleaning the tank and is is now blocking or restricting the outlet pipework or the filling valve/ ballcock is sticking and not allowing the tank to fill so less volume of water in tank will equal less pressure.
