Wrong UC (23kg instead of 30kg)

Anonymous user 9 March 2024 - 3.26 PM

Builder removed a supporting wall, ground floor of a two storey house between kitchen & dining room. SE called for 152 x 152 x 30. On inspection it’s an old beam and the flange is only 7mm which makes me think it’s a 23kg not 30kg. There are also no padstones only 5mm of steel bearing plates (same width as beam) directly onto original London brick - 100mm wall (70s house) - SE calculations stated padstones must be used. Thoughts?

The simple answer is if the builder had the correct details get them back to sort the issue out. You will never get it signed out and the inspector will pick it up on the pre plaster inspection.

You must use correct specification at all times . The steel sounds to be incorrect, And the pad stones must be as to the correct spec, or the work is unsafe and incorrect .

Pad stones should be used for something like that it would be better to over spec than under spec , i don't know the loadings of your beam ie just wall or floor as well and may be loading for perlin in the loft if used ,when calcs are done they tend to be on the generous though ,hope this is of some help for you
