How can I tile over a hob gas pipe?

Anonymous user 28 February 2024 - 4.03 PM

We had a hob installed in our new kitchen. The plumber cut out a strip of plasterboard running directly above it to sink the gas pipe into the cavity wall. We need to fit a tile splashback in front of that pipe, but first we have two issues: 1) The pipe clip keeps pinging out of the masonry wall pin hole, how can we successfully secure the pipe close to the wall so it's almost flush? 2) Once pinned back, it will only sit approx. 4mm behind the wall surface so we can't fit plasterboard over it to tile. What do experts recommend we do to prep it for tiling that's gas safe? Thank you

Gas pipe needs to be re done. 1) Gas pipe shouldn't be really buried in the walls. Usually this could be avoided. 2) Also any pipe buried so close to the exterior of the wall with clip sticking out is a NO,NO. Needs to be re done, in my opinion.

You need a Gas Engineer to reroute the pipe as it should not be buried into the wall.

Any chased in gas pipes must be protected from abrasion/corrosion, clipped securely in the chasing, properly tested and sealed in place. You are not allowed gas pipes in voids. Needs re-doing, get a qualified professional in.
