Plastering & Rendering

Wet plaster drying in winter

Anonymous user 28 February 2024 - 4.03 PM

How long would a property which has been completely wet plastered take to dry in December weather? The property doesn’t have no radiators so heating isn’t an option. I have bought a dehumidifier but not sure what humidity level to set it to as I don’t to ruin the plaster. Does leaving the windows slightly open help?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Just let it dry naturally, don't try and speed it up.. Don't turn any radiators on to speed it up either or it'll crack. It should probably take 3-4 days. It'll only dry quicker in summer.

typically 3-4 days dependent on the plastered background. Never force dry plaster as it will crack and delaminate.

Allow time to dry naturally this may take 3/4 days in the winter, should go to a pinky white colour when dry

I think it’s hard to answer this, it can take all different amounts of time to dry in all different locations, the easiest answer is. To let it dry naturally and let it go to a salmon pink.

Like all of the tradesmen have said. Plaster drys naturally. Don't force it. As it can shrink and cracks. Just like in rendering and pointing in certain situations. Hence why we add pva to certain substrates. So they don't dry so quick.

Should Always let plaster dry naturally. In the summer 2/3 days winter 4/5 days if you try to speed the drying time you will tend to see cracks
