Rsj's and extention
I have just bought a house in which the living room at the back has been extended into the garden. There is an RSJ which holds up the load bearig wall above. Can the RSJ be pushed higher up so that there is a even ceiling line in the living room?
i would imagine the original owners had the beams put under the original floor joists as this is the quickest and easiest way to install them.
The beams could be lifted but you would make alot of disruption to the property. the floor joists would need cutting back to allow the steel to go up and the rooms above the steel would also be disturbed as the floors would need lifting and the bottom of the walls replastered. also possibly plumbing and electrics may need altering where they run through the floor joists into the extension.
