building pergola ove bolier flue

Anonymous user 16/03/2024 - 2.44 PM

Hi, Our boiler is in the kitchen and its vent/flue sits in the external kitchen wall at the front of the house. We want to build a lean-to-style timber-framed pergola with a Twinwall plastic roof along that wall creating light unenclosed outside the kitchen windows, the Pergola extends 3m from the kitchen wall. The vent/flue will be under it - from where the rafter board connects to the wall of the lean. The pergola will be open along the front, and one end (the other end will butt up against a fenced wall) we want an area outside to put a bench to sit on the deck built under it. to prevent gases from building under the Pergola we added a Plume kit at 87 degrees that go through a cutout in the plastic roof and extends at least 600mm above. Is this design safe?

This is passable if the manufacturer of the boiler says it’s ok but general rule is no. You should really just buy the flue extensions and a vertical flue, a 90 degree angle. both air intake and exit fumes should be at the same place in the same pressure zones. then it is correct and no one can argue if done properly. Small price to be safe

They should have the plastic roof below the flue with a clearance of 300mm minimum from the flue and the flue going through plastic roof also needs a certain clearance because it’s combustible material

Generally that would not be allowed but a way around it would be to put balcony kit on if its open at the front depending on the manufacturer instructions and their recommendations.
