water hammer after washing machine fitted

I had a washing machine fitted by a plumber today and he had to turn the water off at the stopcock. I now have an annoying sound which he said was water hammer and that it would go away eventually on its own! Is there any way to fix this? I also checked the stopcock and it was only about half open after he left, could this have caused the hammer? Thanks

The stopcock only been half open could certainly be the problem had the same thing a few days ago and I simply shut the stopcock off and re-opened it and it sorted the problem hope this helps. Thanks, Lewis
