Electrical Question

Payment and vat

When a quote is given does that include VAT or is it normal to get a quote and have VAT added after???

If the company wishes to make it clear to the client the total cost of the job then yes the VAT should be shown on the quote. Unfortunately some companies loose out on work for not being competitive if they show the VAT upfront and therefore choose to get the client before revealing the real cost.
You should as a customer ask beforehand if the works include Vat. Therefore eliminating any crossed wires or thoughts of mistrust of your contractor. He/She may just be giving you the prices like they get them from trade suppliers. That is how we as trades people purchase our goods We too have to ask does that price include Vat. I hope this helps in some way.

A lot of smaller companies are not VAT registered so don't charge VAT and therefore don't show it on the quote.
