Wooden Flooring on concrete

Anonymous user 28 February 2024 - 2.53 PM

We are planning to lay a solid wood floor throughout our downstairs - partly new extension, partly old house. The old part of the house has asphalt floor. The new areas have a concrete slab (with all the appropriate visqueen/DPM and insulation and topped with a fibre screed. I have two questions please: 1. What is the most appropriate method to lay the flooring? - secret nailing or glue 2. Are we ok to lay an underlay (the moisture prevention type) and then the wooden flooring on top? Some information seems to suggest having to lay plywood but this would raise the floor even higher (which we don't want). Thanks for your help.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Firstly I would suggest you use an engineered floor not a solid and float the floor throughout over an underlay with a built in dpm, You may need to latex the whole floor first though, arrange for a fitter to come out and take moisture readings and guide you through the process.

quick answer glue it you should have no problems with DPM but buy a moisture reader first, they're quite cheap and take your own measurements then see what the manufacturers recommend.
