What is the difference between cornice and coving?

Can anyone give me a simple explanation?

hi the difference between cornice is cornice is the pattern is out wood and the coving pattern is in wood.

cornice is a convex profile and coving is concave profile

Hi, I'm not sure either answer so far is correct, cornice is the generic term and coving is a section within that term as a specific.
Covings have uniform profiles.
Cornices have a wide range of designs and materials used including built up cornices on larger properties that are made up of several or many sections of fibrous plaster or timber (fibrous plaster being more stable than timber, the later being more susceptible to expansion and contraction with changes in room temperature.)
