baxi wall heater
Anonymous user 16/03/2024 - 2.42 PM
Hi, I am hoping to replace an old baxi wall heater ( about 30 years old), with a new one, and want to know if the rules on where it can be located have changed in recent years ?. The heater is in the hall, next to the front door and vents into my driveway, I have been told (not by a gas engineer) to fit a new one I will now need to put additional a fluing to raise the height where the fumes vent, Is this true ?? Or can it just be fitted in the same hole ? which is approx waist height ? Thanks
Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Yes the advice given would have been correct you can get an extendable flue diverter kit which would allow you to keep the boiler in the same location. If the fumes are an obstruction and discharged in close proximity to doors and windows this is the way around it.

It depends on the clearances to openable windows, doors and vents. It also depends on the clearances to boundary’s. Using a plume kit (which is the flue kit you talk of) these clearances can be reduced. To give an accurate response then a picture or measurements would be needed

Baxi Brazilia and similar heaters do not produce a nuisance plume so do not need (nor is there available) a plume kit for them. They do, however, need a terminal guard as they are usually installed below the 2 metre from ground level. The flue does need to be away from heat sensitive material and openings into the building. The manufacturer's instructions give all the measurements for these clearances.

Assuming we are talking about a like for like balanced flue wall heater same position would be acceptable as long as manufacturers instructions are adhered too
If you are talking about a boiler then a plume management kit may be required and as above manufacturers instructions must be adhered too
Any gas safe registered engineer can advise to works required regarding installation requirements
