Long pin grippers

Hi, I'm putting down a layer of 3.5mm Tecsound 70 and a normal 9mm pu foam underlay before a 9mm (6mm pile height) berber carpet.

Overall underlayment combined will be 12.5 all inside the grippers. Will normal pin height still be fine or do I need long pin grippers?

While the underlayment is thick, the carpet is not so pretty unsure here.

p.s. turns out the actual thickness of the tecsound is actually 2.5mm (pretty sure conveniently I was sent the wrong roll), with that in mind and given the nails on the grippers are 10mm I think the easiest thing is for me to just lay the tecsound edge to edge then let my fitter just put grippers over the tecsound. These responses have been mega helpful btw, such a great help thank you all.

Personally I’d use normal/medium pin gripper as you’d feel the spikes through the carpet with long pin.

You can always spray the gripper to provide an extra anchor. On top of that once hooked on you could scribe/rake your bolster across the gripper to ensure a flat finish & total anchor.

However, if you was to use long pin flattening the pins after fitting would be essential.

I would lay tecsound 70 all over room and gripper on top which would bring height nearly the same.

Normal pin height gripper will still be ok for your carpet installation no need for longpin gripper rods.
