Ceiling light fitting

I have a basic ceiling rose fitted. There are two switches in the room so there are 6 wires coming out of the ceiling into the rose.

I want to replace it with a new light which only has two connections for live and neutral. Do I just twist the existing live and neutral and secure them in and then cap off the earths?

I would usually get a spark in but have no money due to furlough

You definitely don’t twist them together. That will create eddy currents and in turn heat.

Without seeing it or a more accurate description it would be very difficult to say what to do.

It’s a five minute job that won’t cost more than a call out fee.

Not being funny. But, being furloughed is a luxury compared to what most trades have experienced. We have on the most part been left to fend for ourselves while the half of the country gets paid to stay home and safe.

Tradespeople need your custom now more than ever.

You can’t afford it? But you can afford to buy a new light fitting? You get 80% for furlough, sitting at home

Pay an electrician to do it safely for you, or don’t and face the possibility of your house burning down.

Without sounding rude, given your initial thoughts of how you should address this, I really think you should call a qualified electrician OR competent handyman.

It's just not worth the risk. Appreciate things tight but you could end up costing your self lots more.

Sorry It might not be the answer your looking for.

I would definitely not try just twisting wires together, especially if you don't know what they are. Suggest you leave it as is until you can find/aford someone to do this for you.

Dont take offence, but my advice would be to wait until you can afford an electrican. What your about to do sounds dangerous and could put yourself and anyone else who lives in the house at risk.
