Wiring an induction hob and gas oven
Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.13 PM
Hi! I am changing from a gas cooker to an induction hob and a gas oven with an electric grill my kitchen fitter got the gas fitter and electrician to do the work, my question is that I have a double socket with two plugs in one of the cupboards which is operated from a cooker switch above worktops and was wondering if this is ok or should they have been hard wired. Thanks you.

Time will tell. If the induction hob is less than 3kW you may get away with it. I would have expected the hob to be hard wired.

There are some "power sharing" induction hobs that are designed for a 13amp connection. Most require Hardwiring to a 32 amp dedicated cooker circuit (big red switch ). The user handbook will define the requirements.
The built in gas oven with electric grill will be a 13 amp connection, eg a plug socket or fused spur

New BSEN Standards. If it doesn't come with a fitted plug, then it should be hard wired. Also if hard wired the protective device, cable should all be checked and tested to BD76712018 amend 1. Instruction should stipulate this to validate guarantee.
