Should hot water pipes be fastened to immovable objects e.g. joists

Anonymous user 3 March 2024 - 2.54 PM

I'm refurbishing my bathroom and subsequently have lifted the floorboards to access the plumbing. I notice that all the pipes are either resting on nails banged into the joists or have no fixings at all. Is this to allow for possible expansion due to heat? I'm aware of pipes expanding and possibly weakening a soldered joint somewhere. Is there a rule of thumb about fixing hot water pipes. Thanks in anticipation

Hi just the way they did it at the time, if your laying new pipes cut some slots for them to sit in or use some pipe clips, just stop them banging best wishes colin.
