Coloured vinyl matt on white vinyl matt

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.49 PM

Hello. After spending time prepping the house to paint in brilliant white dulux vinyl matt. The Mrs now wants me to paint the staircase and landing with a different colour. My question is, can I paint over vinyl matt with a coloured vinyl matt without having to re sand? Hope that makes sense. Cheers

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hi, If the walls are recently painted, there is no need to sand. The colourant doesn't affect the adhesion, so vinyl matt over vinyl matt is just like doing an additional coat. More important would be to make sure there is no dust on the walls (if you have been decorating recently, dust can sit in the air for some time and then settle on surfaces)

most times emulsion has been rollered on so light sand would be to do.

As long as the walls were properly prepared before painting and sanded in between costd then there is no reason why you can't paint on top although a light sand before coats would be ideal. Be aware that you would ideally need 2 coats of colour for good finish. Hope all goes well 👍
