My upvc front door does not double lock. it opens from the outside with the key but when you lift the handle and attempt to double lock it the key wont turn. does anyone know why this is? thanks
Thanks for the responses. The door has been realigned however even with the door open the key won't turn in the lock.

The questioner states the 'door has been realigned but the lock does'nt work with the door open' so the two previous answers to get the door realigned will not be the answer it could be the euro lock is not 'straight' in the door lock mechanism or the gearbox on the lock mechanism could be broke take the lock off the door and try it ,move the euro lock up and down ,tighten the screw that holds the lock in at varying tightness ,take the lock out try working the lock manually ,you will need something like a screwdrive with the end bent at 90 deg. if you cant move the lock its
more than likely the mechanism is goosed

Sounds like the door may have dropped and needs re-aligning. If not, could be a problem with the lock mechanism.

As the previous tradesman have said, sounds like the door has dropped. this dose happen after a time and may need adjusting by repacking the glass/panel. This is a job best left to a fitter if you are unsure as it will need to be deglazed, also it my be a problem with the lock. Best way to check this is to open the door and try locking it in the open position if it is easy to lock then it is the door that needs to be adjusted.

Hello your door hooks won't go in fully, hence your key won't turn, this is an easy fix, a quick adjustment, and it will work properly.mcs

If it will still not lock even when open it sounds like the gearbox has failed or the cylinder. Get a locksmith to diagnose the issue and they will offer the correct repair. Gearboxes are available for most multi point locks.

The problem could be the door has dropped slightly not allowing the hook bolts to locate which will not allow the deadbolt to move into the lock position. There should be an adjustment screw on the hinges usually an Allen key which will readjust the door. if this do'esnt do it the door may need re toe and healing.

If the key turns on the inside and locks but doesn’t on the outside it sounds like it could be a issue with the euro cylinder (barrel) if it isn’t locking inside or out then it could either be door has dropped and mechanism isn’t set in fully or it could be a issue with the center case on the mechanism either way is repairable.
