Architectural Services Question

Is a patio door frame part of the load bearing structure for the floors above?

I would like to add extra space to the back of my 3 storey town house by building an extension onto the study, and removing the study patio doors. Is the frame part of the load-bearing structure, or will the already existing lintel be sufficient support for the floors above?

The frame should'nt be load bearing if there is a lintel in place, however if there is not a lintel there witch is some times the case in old houses a lintel will have to be installed. But your builder should be able to tell you at the time.

Assuming because you say doors that the span is over 1.2m in which case there will be a lintel,or im sure you,d have known about it by now.
