New Cooker Hood - power supply requirements

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.08 PM

Hello. Our new cooker does not specify the power requirements, but the website we got it from (ao.com) says it is not a 13 amp power supply and requires an electrician to install. So what is the power requirement?? It doesn't say anywhere. https://ao.com/product/kt90ble-smeg-victoria-chimney-cooker-hood-black-69299-5.aspx?cmredirectionvalue=smeg%20cooker%20hood%20kt90ble

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Have looked on the site, you have misread the details. It says 13 amp supply, to the right is says "no, electrician required". Most fans of this type are either wired into a fused spur or into a 13 amp plug and plugged into a socket. The spur or plug normally have a 3 amp fuse fitted for fans such as this. Maximum 5 amp fuse. It is unusual for the site not to give the power of the motor in watts. Somewhere in the packaging you might find the wattage of the fan IE. 850W Divide this figure by 230 ( your voltage ) this gives you the maximum in amps that this hood needs. Hope this helps Regards John. In any case give an electrician a call to make sure it's safe.

Your link directs to a cooker hood extractor fan. For extractors if no plug is supplied then normally manufacturers instructions specify for them to be hard wired direct to a fused connection unit with a 3amp fuse installed.

It’s 300 watt so it can connnect via a plug top or spur. If you had one there before connect the same assuming it’s a safe supply

Hi On the smeg website it says the lighting is 2 watt and the motor is 275 watt so the overall is 278 watts, so that is about 1.2 amps so a 3 amp fuse can be used for this. I hope this helps you https://www.smeguk.com/product/kt90ble/

Depending wether it has halogen or LED lights the 3/4 speed fan requires no more than 3A but personally I would wire via a spur fused down to 5A

Hello, I think the reason the manufacturer specifies an electrician to install is due to the fact that it requires a fused spur with a flex outlet (it doesn’t have a plug top) it is extremely rare for a domestic extraction unit to exceed 13A load, it’s only commercial kitchens that required a larger load generally.
