Waterlogged garden

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.06 PM

Back garden is waterlogged whenever heavy rain comes. Not sure of solution as no one can point me in the right direction. No adjacent garden has this issue

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

There could be several reasons for this but to give a more positive answer we would need more information. As you say no other adjacent properties have this problem ? then I doubt its high clay content as it would affect them as well. You don't say what is in your garden.......Large Patio ? draining water into the earth from it, Overflowing drains ? What is the main surface of your garden ? Turf, Compacted soil, ( this can be like impermeable concrete after a while ) and is your property lower than your neighbours ?.....as you can see there can be a lot of ifs and reasons why only your property is getting waterlogged, I would go with the other answers on here and install french drains that should solve the problem . A few years ago we was excavating a large garden that even after a little rain would become waterlogged and could not understand why, until an old gentleman neighbour told us that there was an old ancient pond there 50 years agos and the owners filled it in. Seems you can't beat mother nature. Regards Mike MASTEX

As most people say you would need something to investigate the reason for this. You may not be able to put a soak-away in as that would depend on the size of your garden and the porosity of the ground. If you install an aco drain in then this must only go to a surface water sewer unless you are on a combined system or you have written authorisation from your local water authority

Your garden may have a high clay content meaning the water struggles to dissipate into the soil. I would recommend installing some french drains to chanel the water and reduce the standing water.
