Complete Reroofing Project - Is this OK ??

Anonymous user 1 November 2019 - 11.19 AM

Hi, Roofer is about to finish the complete reroofing project of a semi-detached house and asked me to do a final inspection / review & sign-off Upon inspection I found some of the tiles, just below the chimney are not clipped /joined properly in the front and back of the house. Please see the pictures using the URL's below. Roofer is saying this is all OK and wouldn't cause any problems in the long term. Could you please look at pictures and confirm if it is OK ? https://drive.google.com/file/d/1ym3rwsWhp7RnhuoU0U8AG_htJzJKJB_G/view?usp=sharing https://drive.google.com/file/d/1ARPU03V8TWaxW_-t089pxA5X4oFavXoW/view?usp=sharing

The links don’t work unfortunately, and I’m not entirely sure what your referring to either as it tiles weren’t joined properly your have a leak? But however I dunno why your roofer was asking for your opinion it’s not like you know what your looking at/are qualified building surveyor/ building inspector or a time spent tradesmen that was just asking for trouble there. I’m assuming he allowed you up on the scaffolding which is a huge no no on public liability too and health and safety. However I’d assume your roof ain’t leaking is it ? So his done his job properly leave the bloke alone if your that concerns pay the bloke again to do it the way you want it done especially if you haven’t specified anything at the start and just said “ yeah I’d like a new roof like for like “ So if it ain’t leaking it’s fine, if you hire somebody you should trust them if you didn’t trust them why did you hire them in the first place? How can you trust the opinions of people on the internet other somebody in the fresh and blood don’t make sense to me there. He probably meant can you come out and look from ground level and say yeah you done a good job there fella cheers I’m happy with that, not come out and inspect their work with a fine eye for any mirror fault like we’re making a competition roof... That’s a brilliant way to ruin relations with your roofer his unlikely to do you any favours too I certain wouldn’t either

The problem is he has cut the bottom of the tile instead of the top and the new tiles that are fitted in with the older tiles are two different brands they have different channels and the old tiles are slightly curved approx about an hours work to put right my advice would be to get him to change the tile that's got the bottom cut off,fit the correct tiles if matching in with old should say the brand on the back and beat the lead down a bit more should be fine

First of all you should trust the tradesman that doing your job 100% secondly the client should not be allowed up on the scaffolding because of insurance reasons That’s where trust comes in that the job is done correctly and to the best of his ability as far as the roof is concerned not all roofs are perfectly square so these kind of problems do occur to correct this problem it may pay to put more preparation into marking the tiles before they are laid to make sure they work in and Locking together more closely depending on how vulnerable the roof is situated as far as the weather is concerned it may still do it’s job to a high standard but with driving rain in these areas for long periods you may end up with water getting past the tiles and onto the felt below which would be okay short-term but not long-term ???
