Chimneys & Fireplaces Question

Chimney breast removal

Hope you can advise. We are purchasing 1960s built, semi detached bungalow. In the sitting room, is a fireplace on chimney breast, which projects into the room space by around 2.5 feet Our intention is to remove the fireplace and Chimney breast in order to place furniture and offer a little more space.

This room backs onto the neighbours sitting room and their similar ch. breast. Would the work, providing it is carried out safely, have any structural affect on my neighbours house. I appreciate it will be noisy for a few hours and very dirty for us, also, is it a fairly straightforward job.

Hi, Wouldn't have thought you could do this, as the chimney has been as one
with your neighbour, back in the 1930's there would not have been any
deviding cavity, just a single brick. Removing the chimney would weaken
the structure of the chimney, not to mention what it would look like as half
a chimney coming through the roof.
I have removed chimney's before, to gain extra space in the living room, so I
know what you mean, but I personally would not remove your chimney.
Sorry if this is not what you wanted to hear, but I hope it help's you make
your decision.
Kind regards
Paul
