Do we paint walls first and then install our fireplace or vice versa? We are going for a dark colour on walls and have a light coloured fireplace
The question seems to be like the same one what came first the egg or the chicken. I personally think it would be best to coat the walls. Then put the fireplace in. Then if need be cover the fireplace and put a final coat on.

There will almost certainly be an amount of 'making good' to do, after installation. This will mean getting all the same kit out to repeat the entire cycle of dusty preparation & paint work, as you will have gone through for the rest of the room already, just for the fireplace - as well as the potential need for deep-fill work (cement or mortar patch-repair), depending on what agreement you establish with your installers. Either way, it is more efficient to complete all your prep works in one go, rather than returning to them once the rest of the room has been addressed. To protect the new fireplace, tape a combination of cotton or soft fleece & polythene sheets over the unit. The tape should be 2 widths in parallel - the inner width will help you establish a straight edge to fill up to, and can be replaced with a fresh piece when dirty with filler dust in readiness for paint work; the outer width of tape holds the sheet in place. Good luck with your project. Any questions or if you would like help, please feel free to contact us. Best, Alix James Decorators

Fit the fireplace first becasuse if u paint the walls first they will most likely get marked or damaged. So fit the fireplace then get a good clean finish on the walls .
