Extensions Question


while doing some repairs to a cracked wall in the 70s extention i was using a wall chaser i noticed i had cut through some asbestos which had been used to bridge a cavity under a window .the chaser i used had a vacum attached to it but i wasnt wearing a mask .am i being paranoid about asbestos contact.. cheers alan

Hi alan,
you are bot being paranoid about asbestos contact.but as the unit had a vacume you will be unlikely to be exposed to any bad levels and thus you are safe!! befor you repair the area spray it with a 50/50 mix of pva and water this will seal the area.

there is asbestos in so many building meterials, but even if not a mask,in fact all PPE is your first line of defense when doing anything

This would be dangerous to you and any people staying at the property. You must wear the correct safety gear.

You should stop work immediately and arrange for an asbestos test to be done by professionals. When the results of the asbestos test are known, if positive, again professionals only will remove the asbestos. If the asbestos test is negative, then you can proceed with the works.
An asbestos test will cost in the region of £125.00
